Our Story

A love letter in every bite

Behind every dish is a story of resilience, heritage, and the wish to share joy through food.

Our Why

Samuel’s Sammiches & Sweets began as a tribute to our son. In the midst of the pandemic, we lost Samuel and felt our world crumble. Instead of closing ourselves off, we chose to heal through food. We packed up our lives, moved to Rob’s hometown of Corner Brook, and poured our hearts into a kitchen where family, friends and strangers could gather, eat and share stories.

Four years on, that kitchen is still here, open Monday to Friday, with weekends kept for family. Every sauce, every burger and every dessert is still made by hand, the way we started.

Meet the Makers

Rob

Trained in culinary arts at the College of the North Atlantic, Rob leads the savoury side, the smash burgers, the sammiches, the Filipino BBQ skewers and pancit, and runs our catering. His love of experimentation and hospitality shows up in every order that leaves the counter.

Cristina

A registered nurse, biology teacher and midwife by training, Cristina channels that precision and care into baking. She is our baker, making everything from cheesecakes and ube cake to sans rival and custom wedding cakes, and she runs our marketing and social media too.

Our Philosophy

Filipino fusion isn’t just a trend, it’s our story. Cristina’s Filipino roots inspire the vibrant flavours and desserts, while Rob’s Newfoundland home brings hearty comfort to every plate. Ube meets partridgeberry; lumpia shares the counter with jam-jams. Together we make food that feels like home, prepared from scratch with kindness and care.
